Mr. Solomon Belette currently serves as the Director of the Sanford Institute of Philanthropy at John F. Kennedy University. Prior to assuming this role at the University, he served as Director of Corporate and Community Relations. From 2005-2013, Mr. Belette was employed by Catholic Charities of the East Bay as Chief Executive Officer. Prior to Catholic Charities, Belette served as Western Regional Director for Migration and Refugee Services based in San Francisco, CA and as Assistant Director for Program Management Support, in Washington D.C., both of which were with the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops.
Mr. Belette studied at St. John’s University where he earned his bachelor degree in Sociology and pursued graduate studies at Michigan State University. He earned an MBA from John F. Kennedy University, an affiliate of the National University System.
Belette has extensive experience in nonprofit management and leadership from positions held at various organizations including from experiences he gained as a nonprofit consultant. He has produced various reports based on his consulting services on business and strategic planning, feasibility studies, and as a professional trainer. He has served on various nonprofit boards including the Sanford Institute of Philanthropy’s Advisory Council, FEMA, and the East Bay Leadership Council. He currently serves on the board of the Village Community Resource Center and Man2Man Urban Youth Advocate.
Belette has a deep commitment for community service and social justice and aspires to be transformational leader. He attributes this commitment to his faith, upbringing in Ethiopia, and the many people that have inspired and influenced his journey here in the United States.
